Bravo - take a stand against this pseudo-American work ethic, where every second of every minute needs to be accounted for. As for me, I think we need more time to doze off and

was I saying something? Uhm.

Telling the parents their kid is not gifted beats MR by a mile for things I hate about my job. The concept of a 7 year old feeling like a failure because their Wechsler IQ is "only" 124 just kills me! If gifted services were actually need-based like sped is (supposed to be), instead of a prize for the "good" parents, I don't think we'd have this problem.

OOOOOOOOO - I hate the K seats - one time I almost threw my back out testing a kid!!!!!!!

However, the worst I feel is telling a parent that their child meets the criteria for MR. I once had to do it in Spanish, and I needed to explain the concept of MR to her (as she was not even aware that children could even be born that way) and then tell her that her child was in that category. Needed a lot of whiskey after that to calm my nerves.

Thanks for the plug! This post is already dated because a small flurry of comments popped up on the original post soon after I posted this one. I'll have to be more careful when posting about comments.

@Andrew:

Thanks for the plug both here and on your blog. I found your article on stress and cholesterol to be particularly interesting given that I just got checked over the holidays and found out I was at 236. Yikes! So now I have to watch what I eat... Basically it boils down to this - if it doesn't taste like an old shoe then I can't have it.

@John:

Ha! John you crack me up. Ok I'll play along but you can't say I never did anything for you.

Between yours and Kevin's blogs, I will probably not get much work done. Perhaps I can count the reading as the research portion of my field. Good humor too...I am expecting to see at least one Simpsons quote a week. Just kidding-you can use Family Guy too.
-John

Bart: "What was the point of that story?"
Homer: "I like stories"

Joe -

Great to see you in the blogosphere. I've included a post and link on my blog. My blog is primarily a resource for my students (I teach in the school psychology program at Long Island University in Brooklyn), a sort of temporary site until I get my site up and running. This coming semester, my students will be required to access and read this cogent and succint analysis of phonological processes.

Have fun.....Keep writing......
